Liverpool have been boosted by news that target Ezequiel Lavezzi is set to be replaced at Paris Saint-Germain by Argentine Nicolas Gaitan, according to the Express.

Brendan Rodgers side have been looking at bringing Lavezzi to Anfield since 2012 when they originally lost out to Ligue 1 giants PSG with the player making the switch from Napoli.

The clubs pursuit could finally be coming to a positive conclusion though, with PSG looking to offload the winger for as little as £8million as they prepare to bring in Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan as his replacement.

Blanc's side are also looking to fall in line with Financial Fair Play and selling Lavezzi would lower their wage bill by some £3.5million a season, making room for the likely arrival of Gaitan.

The Parc des Princes club aren't alone in their pursuit of Gaitan, though, with Premier League side Manchester United once again looking at the 26-year-old winger.

The Red Devils have been linked with the player on a number of occasions in the past and it's thought Louis van Gaal would like to acquire his services at Old Trafford, playing him alongside fellow Argentine Angel Di Maria.
