Liverpool roundup - Reds on a roll, ravaging the Premier League

Thrill and excitement at Anfield as increasingly realistic hopes of winning the Premier League for the first time in 24 years have started fuelling the passionate souls of Kopites in Liverpool. The Reds, who have gathered 80 points in the Premier League and are currently sitting at the top of it came a step closer to the title last week with their 3-2 win over Norwich City, and now have a 5 point lead on Chelsea, who surprisingly lost by 2-1 to Sunderland in extra-time.

We have seen that Liverpool has done brilliantly in the last couple of weeks, but what exactly has this season meant for the Reds? They have successfully seen the other big guns in the Premier League suffer devastating losses over the last couple of months. The recent sacking of Manchester United boss David Moyes has put the entire team in a blue mood, destabilizing the team even further and making it even harder for them to recover from 7th place.

They have also witnessed the ridicule of Chelsea last weekend in their humiliating extra-time loss to the lowest-ranked team in the Premier League, Sunderland, which has put the whole team off their game and demoralized them. Not only that, but Jose Mourinho, a strong, powerful manager has also decided that his priority will be the Champions League, not the Premier League, where they will face off against Atletico Madrid.

The team narrowly overcame Manchester City, 3-2, who are currently trailing them by 6 points. They have also seen the destruction of Arsenal, who dropped from the top of the table early on in the season to fourth place after suffering from a horrible 6-0 defeat from Chelsea last month - Arsenal has also had their best players including Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott sidelined with injuries recently, which has not helped their form.

Albeit the horrible fortune of their adversaries, Liverpool has to be wary at this stage in the season. They have both Chelsea and Manchester City on their trail, which have 3 and 4 games left respectively. The Reds must now gain 7 more points throughout 3 matches against Chelsea, Newcastle and Crystal Palace to win the Premier League.

Despite this, they have also seen great success with their 19 year old Raheem Sterling, who assured a victory last week at Anfield when he netted twice in Hart's goal. Sterling's form has been superb since December - a youngster who scored 7 times this season and had many more assists. His brilliant form has lead Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool Manager to declare him as the best young player in Europe, when he stated that: "He is the best young player in European football at the moment - At 19 years of age you don't see anyone better. His intelligence with the ball, his movement and he's scoring goals."

The sudden success at Anfield has surprised even the owner of Liverpool, who, in the shadow of achievement has allocated record funds of 40 million Pounds for this summer's transfers. Now, we wait - will Rodgers be the man to bring home the first Premier League Cup in 24 years? Or will the surprising chain of events continue? Only time can tell.
