Kane, Oscar and Sterling amongst January PFA Fans' Player of the Month contenders

The nominations for the January PFA Fans' Player of the Month powered by 90min have been announced and the top contenders are:

- Oscar (Chelsea)

- Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)

- Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspurs)

- Jose Fonte (Southampton)

- Dwight Gayle (Crystal Palace)

- Santi Cazorla (Arsenal)

The PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award which is powered by 90min is designed to give a strong voice to the supporters who are the lifeblood of the game. The awards are endorsed by the players and supported by the clubs.

Each month, one lucky fan will meet and present the award to the player on the side of the pitch before the game.

Voting closes at midnight on Saturday 31st January and the winner will be announced on Wednesday 4th February.

Oscar

The Chelsea midfielder has had a great start to the New Year and his performances have kept Chelsea flying high at the top of the Premier League table. Oscar has scored three goals in January and provided one assist for his team mates. Oscar starred as Chelsea beat a stubborn Newcastle United side 2-0 at Stamford Bridge . Oscar scored the first goal before laying on the second goal for Diego Costa. Oscar then followed that up with a man of the match performance the following week as Chelsea ran out 5-0 winners away to Swansea with the Brazilian midfielder scoring twice. Chelsea have won two out of three games in the Premier League in January taking six points out of a possible nine.

Sterling

Liverpool’s return to form has coincided with the performances of Raheem Sterling. The young England winger has flourished in his central forward role as Liverpool chase a Champions League place. Sterling helped Liverpool pick up wins against Sunderland and Aston Villa as well as a draw against Leicester City. Sterling set up Fabio Borini’s goal in the 2-0 win against Villa. Liverpool are currently 8th in the Premier League five points behind Manchester United in 4th place.

Kane

The Tottenham midfielder kicked off the New Year with a bang scoring twice in the 5-3 win over London rivals Chelsea at the start of the month as well as providing an assist. The young Tottenham forward scored again in the 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace. Tottenham have taken six points and of a possible nine so far in January and are currently 6th in the Premier League table three points behind Manchester United in 4th place.

Fonte

The Southampton defender has been instrumental as the Saints continue to fly high in the Premier League. Fonte has played every minute so far in January for Southampton as he helped the Saints to eye-catching wins over Arsenal at home and more impressively away against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Southampton kept clean sheets in both of those games and then followed that up with another goal as Southampton beat Newcastle 2-1. Southampton are currently third in the Premier League and have won three out of three so far in January.

Gayle

Since Alan Pardew took over the reins at Crystal Palace, Dwight Gayle has reinvented himself. The 24 year old striker has scored three goals and provided one assist for his teammates as Palace continue their rise up the table. Gayle scored in the 2-1 victory at the start of the month and then followed this up with a brace in the 3-2 comeback victory against Burnley also providing the assist for Jason Puncheon’s goal. Crystal Palace have taken seven points out of a possible nine in January and are currently in 13th place.

Santi Cazorla

The Arsenal midfielder has been the standout performer for Arsenal again this month as Arsenal continue to remain in the hunt for a Champions League place next season. The Spanish midfielder put in a man of the match performance against Manchester City last weekend as Arsenal beat Manchester City away from home. Cazorla scored from the penalty spot and also set up the goal for Olivier Giroud to seal the victory. Arsenal are currently 5th in the Premier League, one point behind 4th placed Manchester United. Arsenal have taken six points from a possible nine so far in January.
