Kane eager for more goals

Harry Kane has no intention of easing up as he continues to plunder the goals for Tottenham.

The hotly-rated 21-year-old took his tally for his increasingly impressive campaign to 20 with a double in Saturday's 3-0 Barclays Premier League win at West Brom.

It ended a run of four games without a goal and Kane is looking for plenty more as Spurs press on in three competitions.

Kane said: "I am really pleased. Twenty goals was my next target after I got 10 and I am happy to be there.

"I was on 18 for what felt like ages but I am very happy. Hopefully I can push on and get some more now.

"There is still a long way to go and I am really enjoying it at the minute. Hopefully I can continue."

Spurs went to The Hawthorns in high spirits after securing their place in the Capital One Cup final at Sheffield United in midweek and it showed as they raced into a 2-0 lead inside 15 minutes.

Christian Eriksen opened the scoring with a trademark free-kick after six minutes and Kane gave goalkeeper Ben Foster no chance as he cut inside from a Mousa Dembele pass and blasted home.

West Brom, previously unbeaten under new head coach Tony Pulis, then started to play and Spurs were indebted to a fine performance from goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The Frenchman produced superb saves to deny James Morrison and Claudio Yacob while Craig Dawson also headed against the bar in an impressive spell for the hosts.

Spurs, who remain firmly in the chase for a top-four place, needed to kill off the game and the chance came in the 66th minute after Joleon Lescott failed to get his arm out of the way of a Kyle Walker cross.

Kane made no mistake from the resulting penalty, sending Foster the wrong way with a confidently-struck spot-kick.

Kane told Spurs TV: "We wanted to have a fast start and get ahead in the game. We did with two quick goals.

"In the second half we said we had to remember what happened away at Sheffield United. We had to keep playing and try to get the third. We managed to do that and then it was quite comfortable for us."

Kane's form has led to speculation that Spurs could rip up the contract he signed just five months ago to replace it with an improved one.

The England Under-21 international is also tipped to earn full international recognition in the near future.

He actually remains eligible for the Republic of Ireland, through his Galway-born father, but mention of that subject drew a nonplussed response from Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino in his post-match press conference.

Indeed, Kane has even ruled out that possibility when asked previously but, for now, is just focusing on next week's derby against Arsenal.

He said: "The big one at White Hart Lane next Saturday - everyone is looking forward to it. It's probably the biggest game of the season for us. We're really looking forward to it and hopefully we can get a win."

West Brom boss Pulis felt the game underlined the size of the task facing him at the club.

The result left the Baggies just three points above the bottom three and although most would expect a manager of Pulis' reputation to ease the situation, he is taking nothing for granted.

He said: "I don't think I have come into a club where they think that everything is rosy and it is just going to move along. I think they know, supporters and everybody, that it is going to be a tough battle."

West Brom were the better side in the spell between Spurs' second and third goals but Pulis questioned whether his own focus on transfers had detracted from the overall performance.

Pulis last week signed Callum McManaman from Wigan and wants to make further additions before Monday's transfer deadline.

He said: "I have to take some responsibility. We have been working really hard behind the scenes to bring some players in.

"I have to look at myself and say have I given it as much as I could have done or have there been other things that have pulled me away from what is the most important thing, preparing players for a game.

"It has been a long week and that hasn't stopped. I expect the next two days to be as long. We need to fill one or two areas."
