Joe Hart: Manchester City Deserve Place In Champions League Semi-finals

Joe Hart's pride at helping Manchester City create history is matched by his determination to go all the way in the Champions League.

Strong financial backing has quickly made the club one of the biggest in Europe - a position rubber-stamped by overcoming fellow big spenders Paris St Germain on Tuesday.

Kevin De Bruyne's wonderful strike secured a memorable 1-0 home victory, wrapping up a 3-2 aggregate win that puts City through to the last four of European football's top club competition for the first time.

Hart produced some key saves to secure safe passage and knows better than most how important such progress is to the club he joined from Shrewsbury a decade ago.

The England goalkeeper started on PSG's only other visit to the Etihad Stadium in the 2008-2009 UEFA Cup group stage and the City stalwart is confident this historic season can get better.

"I'm pleased," Hart said. "It was a really good night for us. I'm pleased how it went.

"The end result, looking at it now, we were in control the whole way. The boys were solid.

"Over the four games, including the Kiev games (in the last 16), it was key how we performed and we put ourselves in good positions.

"We're in the semi-finals now and we deserve to be there.

"It is nice. It is something we have been pushing for as a club. I've been involved in this from the start and I am proud we are finally getting where we want to be."

City had never even made the quarter-finals of the Champions League until this season, but the impressive display against PSG has given Hart - much like manager Manuel Pellegrini - extra belief of reaching the May finale.

"It is going to have to be," the England goalkeeper said when asked if it was one of City's performances of the season.

"There was a pretty good performance in the final of the Capital One - it was important we won that.

"Now we want to keep going and get to the final of this one. It's one of my most special nights. I've had some good days, and this was a special night."

Next up for City is Saturday's trip to reigning champions Chelsea, but the focus on the eve of the match will be split with events in Nyon.

Pellegrini's side will find out their semi-final opponents on Friday morning, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Benfica the possible opponents ahead of the remaining quarter-final second-leg ties on Wednesday.

Asked if he had any preference on who City would be drawn against in the semi-finals, Hart said: "No.

"Whoever those three teams are going to be they are deservedly the best teams in Europe."
