Jamie Carragher makes scathing assessment of Aston Villa

Jamie Carragher labelled Aston Villa the worst ever team in Barclays Premier League history after their heaviest home defeat in 81 years.

Remi Garde's side were humiliated 6-0 by Liverpool on Sunday to leave them bottom of the table and eight points from safety.

Daniel Sturridge , James Milner, Emre Can, Divock Origi, Nathaniel Clyne and Kolo Toure scored as Villa slipped to their biggest home loss since 1935, when they lost 7-0 to West Brom.

"They are an embarrassment Aston Villa, they have been for a few years," said Liverpool stalwart Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports.

"I was just thinking about how difficult it is for young kids, their dream is to play in the Premier League - if you watch Aston Villa that gives you hope. How can those players be playing in the Premier League, at that level?

"I can't imagine one Premier League manager looking at that team and thinking there is one player I would like to take into my squad.

"I said at half-time that they were one of the worst I've seen and I was reliably informed that Derby and Sunderland were maybe the worst.

"But forget about what points they had - I think they are the worst I've seen. That's as bad as it goes."
