Jack Wilshere - Should he stay or should he go?

The great Jack Wilshere debate has officially started and Arsenal fans forums everywhere are pondering this very question.

There is no doubting that Jack is a player of immense talent. I have to say however that much of that talent has to date, remained unfulfilled. Whether this is because of his own attitude or maybe because Arsene Wenger has not regularly played him in his favourite position is a debatable point. Wilshere is adored by the Arsenal fans and the prospect of him moving to another Premiership team will no doubt see Arsene Wenger again questioned as the perception of some fans is that they believe he sells Arsenal's best players. Personally, I think this may have been the case previously, but as I am going to elaborate, this in itself is a very debatable point.

As much as I love Jack Wilshere and the fact is, that he plays with his heart on his sleeve and has Arsenal blood pumping through his veins the stark reality is that he has not delivered for Arsenal. We have seen flashes of brilliance but we have also seen huge doses of inconsistency and more than an air of petulance. His attitude simply is not right and far be it for me to judge him for his smoking, when you get caught three times by the governor smoking that is stretching it.

My mind is cast back to an excellent article that was in the Daily Mail this time last year when our all time legend Tony Adams was really not happy with Jack's performances and pretty much said what I am saying now. You can see that article by clicking here. Adams went on to say "'He must show more hunger and professionalism. He's in danger of not fulfilling his potential and his career could be over in the blink of an eye." I think the last bit is a bit harsh but, Arsenal fans won't forgive me for this, he does remind me so much of Joe Cole. Joe Cole was a player with serious talent and there are striking similarities between these two players. Both have had their fair share of injuries. But for me Cole could have really kicked on, similar to Jack, sadly neither have.

So is it the right time for Jack Wilshere to leave Arsenal? Manchester City, Liverpool and Juventus are all sniffing around and we can see just by the calibre of these clubs what a special talent Jack is. Maybe, just maybe he needs a transfer to kick start his career. I am sure if Arsene Wenger gets a bid in the region of £25-£30M he will be tempted to let Jack go. As much as it burns me to say, I cannot see how Jack can fit into our midfield and bringing him in won't be a step forward.

In 6 seasons, Jack has played 148 games scoring 11 goals (stats provided by Arsenal.com).
