Inter president Erick Thohir not looking to sell stake in the club

Inter Milan have rejected reports president Erick Thohir is planning to sell any part of his majority stake in the Serie A club.

The Indonesian businessman bought 70 per cent of Inter's shares from the Moratti family in September 2013 and has since invested heavily in the playing squad and the San Siro infrastructure.

Reports in Italy suggested the 45-year-old is losing patience with the lack of progress made by the Nerazzurri, who are currently fifth in the Serie A table under head coach Roberto Mancini.

But Inter insist Thohir is not looking to sell up, but rather that he has asked investment bank Goldman Sachs to explore "the possibility of identifying potential future commercial partners in Asia."

A statement published on inter.it read: "Inter categorically denies that president and majority shareholder Erick Thohir is looking to sell any part of his 70 per cent majority stake in the club."

It continued: "The club remains firmly on track with both its commercial and sporting plans.

"It is also working closely with UEFA in order to respect the financial fair play regulations.

"The club remains committed to a return to Europe - a clear target to compete at the highest levels of club competitions."

Inter won the treble with Jose Mourinho in 2010 but have suffered an alarming decline since the Portuguese departed. A ninth-placed finish in 2013 was their worst since the 1993-94 campaign.
