'I'm getting better at everything' Does Mourinho's ability as a manager warrant his cocky attitude?

On paper, Jose Mourinho is probably the best football manager there is. He has won the league in Spain, England, Italy and Portugal and continues to win several other trophies and accolades. He is the kind of manager the press and fans love and the kind players tend to remember for the rest of their lives. If anyone can be allowed to flaunt his success at the world it is probably him or maybe not.

Jose Mourinho may be significantly successful but Carlo Ancellotti is certainly not far behind. The only place where Jose has won the league and Carlo hasn’t is Portugal but then Jose also has not won the French Ligue 1 which Carlo has. In recent times it even seems like anything Mourinho has done, Ancellotti has done better as he managed to win Real Madrid’s tenth Champions League just last season. Even in the Premier League, Ancellotti’s league winning Chelsea side managed to set the League’s goals record; a feat Mourinho had failed to achieve even when exhibiting complete dominance over everyone else.

Diego Simeone and Jurgen Klopp are also managers who could very well be cocky and be forgiven for it as they managed to win their respective leagues and put up spirited fights for the Champions League title whilst surviving on what most would see as meagre budgets. At the peak of their powers they proved to be better than Jose Mourinho.

The legendary Sir Alex Ferguson was known for his crude honesty in Press Conferences and his ruling with an iron fist. Some may say he was better than Jose Mourinho with the number of accolades affirming that and yet he so rarely passed off as cocky or overly confident about his abilities. Not to say he is an angel but he cast more of a gentlemanly figure in a sport whose competitive edge seems to leave no room for such.

One is then left to wonder if Jose Mourinho should continue to be loved even through his snide moments solely because he is probably the pinnacle of footballing managerial success especially as his counterparts seem to be able to resists such tendencies.
