Ruben Neves scores first Wolves goal in win over Hull

Wolves kept up their impressive start to the Sky Bet Championship season with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Hull at the KCOM Stadium.

Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota and Nouha Dicko scored the goals to make it three wins from three for Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

Hull suffered their first defeat of the season despite their captain Michael Dawson heading in to level in the first half and David Meyler scoring a penalty late into second-half injury time.

The home side started brightly, Kamil Grosicki speeding down the left and cutting the ball back, but it was cleared just as Frazier Campbell looked to get the telling touch.

Wolves took the lead with their first attack after five minutes, Neves cutting in from the left and hitting a curling right-foot shot from 30 yards into the far corner of the goal, giving Allan McGregor no chance.

The visitors should have been further ahead a little over 10 minutes later. A near-post corner from Neves was flicked on by Leo Bonatini but an unmarked Roderick Miranda headed over at the back post.

Hull were level as the half-hour approached as Grosicki fired in from the left and, when Wolves only half-cleared at the far post, the ball popped up to Dawson, who headed in from a couple of yards out.

Wolves were back in front three minutes before the break as Bright Enobakhare muscled his way past Michael Hector down the right and squared the ball across goal to the far post where Diogo Jota fired into the roof of the net.

After a cagey start the second half finally came alive when Barry Douglas floated an inswinging corner from the right to the far post, where Bonatini headed straight at McGregor.

But with the visitors looking settled they were nearly caught out on the break when Ola Aina's run finally saw the ball break to Campbell in the area but as he bore down on the Wolves goal John Ruddy's strong right arm was enough to keep out his snap shot.

Hull were pushing for an equaliser and almost levelled with 20 minutes to go. Sam Clucas curled in a corner from the right and a header from Abel Hernandez came back off the far upright, with Hull's follow-up cleared off the line.

Wolves got a third in the final minute as Ivan Cavaleiro played Dicko through from halfway and the striker raced clear before slotting the ball under McGregor.

With almost all of the nine minutes of stoppage time played Hull were awarded a penalty for a push on Adama Diomande, with Meyler firing the spot-kick low to Ruddy's right.
