Hughes blow rocks Rams

Derby have been dealt a huge blow with the news midfielder Will Hughes has suffered a cruciate ligament injury.

The highly-rated 20-year-old will undergo an operation and faces around six months on the sidelines.

Hughes was carried off on a stretcher shortly after the half-hour mark during Saturday's goalless draw at Bolton.

The Rams have now confirmed he suffered an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will have immediate surgery.

Academy graduate Hughes has been a hugely influential figure for the Rams since breaking into the first team in 2011.

The England Under-21 international has made 138 appearances for the Championship club, scoring 10 goals.

He has long been tipped to play in the Premier League and earlier this summer was linked with a move to Newcastle, managed by former Derby boss Steve McClaren.
