How some of the Premier League debutants dealt with day one of the season

Premier League clubs have spent nearly £800million on players this summer ahead of the new campaign.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at five debutants who impressed on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Nathan Redmond (Southampton)

The England Under-21 winger made a swift return to the top flight following Norwich's relegation last season. And Redmond was in no mood to wait in making a positive impression in front of his new Southampton fans. Lashed home a low volley after Heurelho Gomes' poor punch to give Saints a 1-1 draw against Watford.

Alvaro Negredo (Middlesbrough)

The former Manchester City forward scored only five La Liga goals for Valencia last season. But Negredo needed only 11 minutes to open his Middlesbrough account following his loan switch to the Riverside. Linked well with Stewart Downing in the 1-1 draw with Stoke and offered newly-promoted Boro a real physical presence.

Maarten Stekelenburg (Everton)

Everton's new Dutch goalkeeper had little to do in the first half against Tottenham. But he preserved a point for the Toffees as Spurs piled on the pressure following Erik Lamela's equaliser. Produced brilliant late stop to deny Lamela adding another and suggested Everton have found the right man to replace the long-serving Tim Howard.

Ahmed Musa (Leicester)

Leicester's club record signing has electric pace and showed it to good effect to cut Hull open twice in the first half. The unselfish Musa set up Jamie Vardy on both occasions but the England striker squandered the opportunities. Despite the champions' shock 2-1 defeat, the Nigerian's partnership with Vardy promises to be an exciting one for Leicester.

Fernando Llorente (Swansea)

The Spanish World Cup winner brought a focal point to the Swansea attack following his £5million move from Sevilla. Llorente could not mark his bow in English football with a goal in Swansea's 1-0 win at Burnley. But he will be more of a threat when his match fitness improves and Gylfi Siugurdsson is reintroduced into the starting line-up after his post-Euro 2016 break.
