Liverpool look set to make their sixth summer signing with Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke on the verge of a move to Anfield, after both clubs agree a deal.

Benteke has been linked with a move to Liverpool a number of times in recent months, more so after the clubs board made it clear they will back their manager in this summers transfer window, with the Reds already signing five players – Milner, Ings, Gomez, Bogdan, Firmino.

And TalkSPORT's Graham Beecroft has today reported that Villa's Belgian international will become Liverpool latest signing.

‘I expect him to sign if not today then certainly in the not too distant future,’ he said on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast.

‘Liverpool have done their work and have sealed a deal [with Aston Villa].’

The fee is thought to be in the region of £32.5million, with the Villa forcing Liverpool to pay Benteke's release clause.

The sale of Villa's star striker will be a huge blow for boss Tim Sherwood, although the former Spurs man indicated that the club wouldn't be able to prevent the players move if and when contractual causes were triggered.
