Pools revival continues

Scott Harrison's first professional goal lifted Hartlepool out of the Sky Bet League Two drop zone for the first time since October as Cambridge fell to a 2-1 defeat at Victoria Park.

The defender's stunning strike earned Pools a fourth successive win after Matt Harrold had cancelled out Brad Walker's opener.

A bumper crowd was quickly celebrating as the hosts took a 20th-minute lead. Walker capitalised on Cambridge's failure to clear a Jonathan Franks cross, heading through a crowd of players and into the net.

Cambridge came back well and fired an immediate warning shot when Liam Hughes' volley rattled a post.

The leveller came soon afterwards as a long throw worked its way to Harrold, who fortuitously controlled before firing home.

Debutant Jordan Hugill and Franks both spurned great chances either side of half-time, but Hartlepool's decisive goal came midway through the second period.

Franks' corner worked its way to Harrison and the centre-back unleashed a superb volley into the net.

The win meant Pools rose out of the bottom two for the first time since a 2-1 defeat in the reverse fixture on October 25.
