Harry Pain: Tottenham's European dream over as Monaco top group

23 November 2016 09:36

It wasn't too long ago English hopes of European triumph came crashing down in France, and Tottenham were the latest to be dealt a bitter blow in Monaco.

Perhaps England's defeat is far more humiliating as it was against the unfancied underdog Iceland, but spurs would still have been hoping to progress past the group stage like Leicester have, and their bitter rivals arsenal.

It comes just days after their last gasp win over west ham at the weekend, and with that feeling of success one would have that the performance would have matched the expectation.

Harry Kane scored Tottenham's only goal from the spot, with his counterpart Radamel Falcao missing his own one.

Maybe it will now allow Pochettino's boys to rest up and push on for the league form, and maybe they'll finally be able to finally claim that ever elusive Europa League trophy.
