Bundesliga strugglers Hamburg have offered Germany's rising-star coach Thomas Tuchel a four-year deal worth 3.2m euros (US$3.4m) per season with 25m euros (US$26.8m) available for new players, according to reports.
Both German daily Bild and Hamburg newspaper Handelsblatt say the 41-year-old Tuchel has been made the bumper off in a bid to revive Hamburg's flagging fortunes.
The 1983 European Cup winners only narrowly avoided a first relegation from Germany's top-flight last season and are currently down in the bottom three.
Hamburg sacked Joe Zinnbauer ten days ago with sports director Peter Knaebel, who is their third coach this season, currently in charge until the end of the season.
More worryingly for the Hanseatic city side is that Hamburg has gone through 14 different coaches in the last decade.
Having spend five years at Mainz, Tuchel is regarded in Germany as a future coach of the national side and has a reputation for coaxing impressive results from mediocre teams.
He has been out of work since May 2014 after a falling out with Mainz, but whether or not he signs for Hamburg will hinge on them staying in the Bundesliga.
"Thomas Tuchel costs a lot of money, but whether or not he's expensive you have to work out for yourself," said Hamburg's chairman Karl Gernandt.
"If he's worth it, then he's not expensive."
According to reports, the 25 million available for new players will be provided by three investors.
With stars Rafael van der Vaart, Marcell Jansen, Gojko Kacar and Ivo Ilicevic all set to leave at the end of the season, Hamburg expect to save 9.3m euros in wages.
