Eddie Howe was left frustrated as goalkeepers from both sides combined to ensure Bournemouth were held to a 1-1 draw by Watford.
Artur Boruc's error gifted Odion Ighalo an equaliser after Glenn Murray had headed the Cherries into the lead.
Then Hornets keeper Heurelho Gomes denied Steve Cook a memorable goal with a stunning save, before palming out Murray's penalty seven minutes from time.
"It's disappointing, we should have won the game and we feel we have dropped more points," said Cherries boss Howe. "The key moments in the game went against us.
"We encourage our players and our keeper to be brave and play the ball out from the back, so there's no blame attached to Artur. But the timing was unfortunate.
"And Steve Cook's overhead kick would have been talked about for years if it had gone in. I though it was in, but it was an incredible save.
"Then when you get a penalty at the end you think you are going to win but it was another top-class save."
Murray answered Bournemouth's striker SOS after top scorer Callum Wilson was ruled out for six months with a knee injury.
The former Crystal Palace striker had already looped one header onto the roof of the net, but made no mistake when presented with a carbon-copy opportunity just before the half-hour mark from Matt Ritchie's cross.
But Watford, who had not created a single chance of their own, were handed one on a plate a minute before time.
Boruc gathered a routine backpass from Sylvain Distin but as he attempted to play it back to the defender Ighalo intercepted, skipped past Boruc and rolled the ball into an empty net for his fifth goal of the season.
Boruc partly atoned for his error with a decent stop after Ikechi Anya burst through, before Gomes pulled off his incredible diving stop to keep Cook's acrobatic effort from crashing into the top corner.
It looked as though Bournemouth would snatch the win when Etienne Capoue tripped Adam Smith in the area, but Gomes had other ideas as he dived to his left to palm out Murray's penalty.
"I am pleased as Bournemouth are a very tough opponent," said Hornets head coach Quique Sanchez Flores. "I'm very happy with the response of my players and the performance of the team in the second half.
"Mistakes lead to goals in football and we were creating pressure, and in this case we got a goal.
"If you save a penalty in the last few minutes it's key to the game but I am pleased with the players in general.
"Everyone knows Heurelho is very important, he is a leader for us. Yes, I thought the overhead kick was in. Maybe Heurelho prevented the goal of the season."
