Ex-Italy international and former Juventus and Real Madrid star, Fabio Cannavaro has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for breaking the police seal at his home.

The previous World Cup winner has been under investigation for tax evasion and had his villa seized last October by the authorities in Naples. According to prosecutor Luigi Cannavale, Cannavaro, brother Paolo and wife Daniela Arenoso, went for a swim in the villa’s pool - a direct breach of the order which banned them from entering the property.

Cannavaro was slapped with a 10-month jail term, while his brother who plays for Serie A side Sassuolo, and his wife were also hit with custodial sentences.

The prosecution alleged the trio had abused the country’s building regulations and failed to secure planning permission from the local council to carry out works to the house and surrounding land.

The Cannavaro brothers and Arenoso were acquitted over the planning permission allegations, but convicted for entering a property illegally.

All three immediately appealed, which means the sentences are suspended until the court has re-visited the case.
