Former FIFA vice-president Alfredo Hawit pleads guilty to corruption

Former FIFA vice-president Alfredo Hawit has pleaded guilty to four charges of corruption.

Prosecutors told a New York court that the Honduran negotiated and accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes linked to the sale of marketing rights to tournaments since 2008.

The former president of CONCACAF pleaded guilty to one count of racketeering conspiracy, two counts of wire fraud conspiracy, and one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Each count carries a maximum of 20 years in prison, while Hawit will also will forfeit USD950,000 upon sentencing.

The case is part of the US Department of Justice's ongoing investigation into corruption in international football.
