Exeter end Leyton Orient's unbeaten record with convincing win

Leyton Orient's 100 per cent start to the Sky Bet League Two season was emphatically ended by Exeter City, who romped to an impressive 4-0 win at St James Park.

Exeter made a blistering start to the game and were ahead after five minutes.

Tom Nichols showed great strength to hold off Sean Clohessy, who did his best to pull him back, but as the Exeter striker burst into the penalty area he was upended by Charlie Grainger for a penalty. Nichols dusted himself down before slotting the ball past the O's goalkeeper to give Exeter the lead.

Matt Oakley cleared off the line from Jay Simpson to preserve Exeter's advantage, but while Orient were seeing plenty of the ball, the hosts still managed to double their lead on 41 minutes.

Ryan Harley laid the ball off to Alex Nicholls and he took a touch before drilling a low shot past Grainger from 18 yards.

Ten minutes into the second half it was 3-0, as David Wheeler was fouled inside the box and Nichols scored his second penalty of the day.

And Wheeler made it 4-0 after 77 minutes when he drilled a low shot across goal and in off the far post to complete the scoring.
