Sport.co.uk understands Everton are on the verge of completing a deal for Burnley playmaker Chris Eagles as a replacement for outgoing midfielder Steven Pienaar.
Eagles, who was close to joining Glasgow Rangers during the summer, is close to securing a permanent move to Goodison Park according to a source close to the player. The source also intimated that Toffees forward James Vaughan could also be part of the deal to bring the tricky playmaker to Merseyside.
The former Manchester United trainee impressed in the Premier League last season for Burnley and the 25-year-old has maintained his form for the Clarets in the Championship.
Eagles will replace outgoing South African playmaker Steven Pienaar who looks set to move to Tottenham Hotspur during January or at the end of the season after agreeing terms with the North London club.
The Guardian first reported yesterday morning that Tottenham Hotspur had beaten off competition from Chelsea and Atletico Madrid to land the winger, with the North London club agreeing a £70, 000 a week deal with the South African.
According to the report the Lilywhites had yet to decide whether to try and push through a deal in the January transfer window for a fee in the region of £2 million, or wait until the summer to sign the South African on a Bosman free transfer.
The source told Sport.co.uk that he was unaware how much Eagles would cost Everton manager David Moyes, but that a deal was close to being completed.
