Edinson Cavani on the Move to Chelsea or Manchester United

Edinson Cavani was asked while on duty at the World Cup if a move to Manchester United was possible. His answer surprised a few people when he stated: "In football, you never know. Anything can happen. One day you are in one team and, the next day, you can be in another."

Paris Saint-Germain’s penned Cavani to a 5 year, £55m deal just last year but those few words seem to indicate that there may be a move to the Premier League in the Uruguayan’s future. It is now rumored that Cavani’s agent has been instructed to seek out clubs in England that may be interested in his services.

Chelsea and Manchester United are thought to be the front runners but the Blues may have the edge here. It was thought that the current Chelsea side will look different when they open the new campaign against newly promoted Burnley on 18 August. Jose Mourinho is actively looking for a new face to partner with Diego Costa and Cavani looks to fit the bill.

Though Cavani reveled in his first season at PSG, he was constantly played out wide to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic playing through the middle. Rumors started to circulate that Cavani was unhappy about how he was being utilized by the team.

As with all things football, only time will tell whether such a move will happen. Cavani will not come cheap and both Chelsea and United would have to part with current or former stars to make this happen. Chelsea has more of the “former” stars to release than United and they should be easier to off load. Manchester United does not have that luxury with both Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie cemented in up front.
