Barnard set for Shire bow

Goalkeeper Richie Barnard will make his debut for East Stirling when Ayr visit Ochilview in the League Cup.

Fit again defender Jordan Tapping is also included in the squad as the hosts look to bounce back from their 7-1 defeat to Falkirk in the Petrofac Training Cup last weekend. However, work commitments continue to keep David Niven out.

"The scoreline is a bad one but we played well for the first 70 minutes of the game so there was no major inquest afterwards, " said Shire head coach Craig Tully. "If we can manage a 90-minute performance against Ayr then we are in with a chance."

Martyn Campbell returns from suspension for Ayr but summer signing Kevin McKinlay will need to pass a fitness test before he can make his debut.

Honest Men player/manager Mark Roberts has told his team not to be taken in by East Stirling's defeat last weekend

He said: "I have spoken to a few people that were there and they have all said the same thing - that the scoreline was false. The Shire did really well for over an hour so we cannot take anything for granted.

"We let ourselves down early in our game at Clyde and we cannot make another slow start."
