Curtis is the Main man as Rovers ease to first win of the season

First-half goals from James Coppinger and Curtis Main earned Doncaster their first league win of the season as they beat Fleetwood 2-0.

Rovers were always the livelier side and Fleetwood never looked like repeating the form that saw them score four goals in each of their last two games.

Coppinger headed the home side in front in the 17th minute when he connected with a raking free-kick from Aaron Taylor-Sinclair and visiting goalkeeper Chris Maxwell did well to prevent Andy Williams from adding a second soon afterwards.

Rovers did not have long to wait before increasing their lead with Main slotting home from close range in the 24th minute following an excellent move involving Coppinger and the unselfish Williams .

Fleetwood were always second best in the first period but began promisingly after the interval in a bid to haul back the deficit with home keeper Thorsten Stuckmann brilliantly tipping away a fierce 20-yard effort from Antoni Sarcevic .

David Ball missed the chance to pull one back when he fired wide following a 59th-minute goalmouth scramble but Doncaster were close to adding a third with Williams denied by a full-stretch save from Maxwell 20 minutes from time.

Rovers ensured a clean sheet when Stuckmann saved in fine style from substitute Declan McManus in injury-time.
