McClaren to mix things up

Derby head coach Steve McClaren will make changes against Reading in the Capital One Cup.

McClaren sees the competition as a good chance for him to utilise his squad, although he will be making fewer than the six changes he made against Charlton in the last round.

Defenders Ryan Shotton and Lee Naylor, midfielders Omar Mascarell and Jordan Ibe, and forwards Johnny Russell and Leon Best were all on the bench for the Championship game against Cardiff on Saturday and could come into McClaren's thinking for the tie with the Royals.

Jake Buxton was available against Cardiff after serving a suspension but the centre-back missed the 2-2 draw through injury and it remains to be seen whether he will be involved on Tuesday night.

Reading will check on goalkeeper Adam Federici, who missed Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday with a minor calf injury.

Defender Michael Hector is also being monitored having sat out at the weekend on doctor's orders following a head injury while boss Nigel Adkins will make a late call on winger Hal Robson-Kanu, who is in contention for a first appearance of the season after a knee problem.

Defender Stephen Kelly is also closing in on a return after a knee injury but he will play for the under-21 side first to build up his fitness.

Shaun Cummings, Danny Williams, Jem Karacan (all knee), Garath McCleary (back) and Anton Ferdinand (hamstring) are still on the injured list.
