Dean Smith Poised To Be Named As New Brentford Boss

Walsall boss Dean Smith will become Brentford's new manager on Monday.

The Saddlers chief will be named as the Bees' new boss as they finally replace the sacked Marinus Dijkhuizen, Press Association Sport understands.

Smith only signed a new 12-month rolling contract at the Banks's Stadium in October but has been tempted to Griffin Park with Brentford 11th in the Sky Bet Championship, four points behind the play-off spots.

Youth coach Lee Carsley was appointed until the end of the season in September but repeatedly insisted he was not interested in the job long term and Monday's Sky Bet Championship trip to Bolton will be his last game in charge.

Smith has been manager at the Banks's Stadium since replacing Chris Hutchings in January 2011 and guided the Saddlers to safety in League One, despite being bottom and eight points adrift when he took over.

He took them to Wembley for the first time in the club's history in March, losing the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final 2-0 to Bristol City, and currently has the Saddlers fourth in Sky Bet League One.
