The news this morning may worry Red Devils fans but may also provide hope as his future is very much on the brink at Old Trafford.
The Sun broke the news that David De Gea had allegedly confided in teammates that he intended to stay with Manchester United whilst other sources continued with the line that the shot-stopper would break the world record transfer fee for a goalkeeper.
David De Gea already holds the British club record of £18.9m which was set in 2011 when he arrived at the club and Manchester are said to be comfortable with the situation and the future of De Gea as a United player.
Real Madrid are supposedly keener than mustard to secure De Gea for a future at the Santiago Bernabeu with 33-year-old Iker Casillas not getting any younger. A world record fee of £34million plus has been mooted which would eclipse the £33million that Juventus paid for Gianluigi Buffon in 2001.
The 24-year-old has arguably been Manchester United’s best player this season despite the influx of overseas talent, making a series of match-winning saves. His stats have generally improved markedly from his first arrival, particularly in his ratio of punches and catches in his most confident and consistent displays so far in his career.
It has been suggested that with De Gea’s long connection with Atletico Madrid as a youth and senior player that joining Real would be a difficult decision to make and would certainly be a factor as would uprooting his settled family life.
