There is no keeping Danny Ings out of the headlines or off the score sheet so far this season, and the Burnley striker has been rewarded for his heroics with a second successive PFA fans’ award.
Danny’s first two seasons at Turf Moor were disrupted by two long-term knee injuries – both of which required surgery – but he’s certainly fir and firing on all cylinders now.
Charged in the summer with the task of stepping into the golden boots of former Clarets’ favourite Charlie Austin, who headed to QPR, Ings has more than answered the call from Sean Dyche.
The Burnley boss believes Ings has grown both in maturity and confidence this season, with the result so far being a league and cup total of 13 goals – none more precious than his brace in the 2-0 win against promotion rivals QPR at the weekend.
Championship leaders Burnley are smashing all-comers at the moment, and Ings has been leading the charge for the division’s surprise packages.
He says: “I'm just enjoying my football as I've had a tough couple of years through injuries. Now that I'm fit I'm going out with a smile on my face and it's been really effective.
"I can't sit on 13 now and get complacent,” added Ings, who is benefiting from an injury-free run. “I work hard in training every day to hopefully better myself and hopefully the goals will keep coming."
Whilst Ings has justifiably been crowned PFA Fans’ Player of the Month in the Championship, Callum Wilson is also worthy winner in League One where he is leading Coventry’s fight against all odds.
The Sky Blues started the season with a ten-point deficit but are currently sitting in 13th place with half an eye on the play-offs rather than the drop zone.
But for the cruel deduction, Stephen Pressley’s men would be occupying fourth spot and Callum Wilson has made a massive contribution with ten goals to his name already.
Prior to this season, the division’s joint top scorer had only started three league games for the club since turning pro in 2009, but now he’s one of the first names on Pressley’s team sheet.
The 21-year-old has subsequently been rewarded for his efforts so far this season with a new contract which will keep him at the club until 2015, and possibly beyond.
"He has been integral in our climb up the table so we're delighted he has signed," said manager Pressley. "He's a great kid and a Coventry boy with a desire to see us succeed.”
Our final monthly award in League Two goes to Luke James who has helped restore some much-needed pride at Hartlepool – and put a smile back on the face of Sky presenter Jeff Stelling.
The Soccer Saturday anchorman, as viewers MAY have gathered, is a massive Pool fan and has been suitably impressed with James’ goalscoring exploits this season.
The talented 18-year-old has come of age in a short space of time and three of his six goals to date came during October when Hartlepool chalked up four wins out of five league games.
Fans’ favourite Luke holds the record of being the youngest player to ever score for Hartlepool, at the age of 17 years and 64 days, and he has a big future ahead of him. Just ask Jeff!
