Murphy blow for Daggers

Dagenham & Redbridge have suffered another injury setback ahead of Saturday's League Two clash with Cambridge with the news that last season's leading scorer Rhys Murphy has been ruled out for at least another three weeks due to further surgery.

The 23-year-old has been absent since March following an operation on a hip injury and any hopes of a comeback after his recent return to training have been dashed.

"He's been feeling a little bit of pain across the top of his groin as he's been making his recovery," Wayne Burnett told the Barking and Dagenham Post. "It's frustrating when you have any player out injured, but one of Rhys' ability is even more disappointing. But it's a squad game and we'll have to get on with it."

Defender Billy Bingham has been struggling with a shin injury so far this term, summer signing Christian Doidge has yet to make his debut for the club due to a foot problem and Zavon Hines remains sidelined with a knee issue.

Cambridge will travel without striker Liam Hughes after he suffered a broken wrist late on in Monday's League Two draw at Newport.

The 22-year-old was forced to come off with just two minutes left to play and has been added to an extensive injury list Richard Money is forced to contend with.

Tom Champion is awaiting surgery on a facial injury and is facing six to eight weeks out, Luke Chadwick has a hamstring problem, while Robbie Simpson, Kwesi Appiah and Ian Miller are all out until Christmas.

"They are all important players to us and a number are our leaders in the dressing room and leaders on the pitch," Money told CU Player. "So it's a tough situation to deal with and a real challenge."
