Croatian striker Marko Livaja could be in a lot of trouble with his club Atalanta after insulting fans following his substitution in Saturday's Serie A 2-1 defeat at home to Verona.
Atalanta coach Stefano Colantuono replaced Livaja with Maxi Moralez seven minutes into the second half. The Croatian, who has scored just twice in Serie A this season, was subject to insults and jeers by some sections of the home crows and reacted angrily.
The barbs between Livaja and what are believed to be hard-line 'ultra' fans of the Bergamo-based club continued on social network website Facebook later in the evening, with Livaja responding to remarks by lashing out: "Come with me to Croatia, Italian bastards."
Provoking the fans further, in a reference to the club's training complex at Zingonia, he added: "See you in Zingonia."
So far, Atalanta have yet to comment and with no games scheduled on Easter Sunday the club is unlikely to make any statement until Tuesday.
Reports in the Italian media, however, claim the incident could seal the 20-year-old player's departure from the club at the end of the season.
Verona's veteran striker Luca Toni scored a 72nd minute winner for the visitors to hand Atalanta a third consecutive reverse which saw them drop to 11th place and well out of contention for a place in the Europa League.
