Demetriou double steers Newport to come-from-behind win at Crawley

Defender Mickey Demetriou scored with a header in each half as Newport came from behind to clinch their third win in four games with a deserved 2-1 victory at Crawley.

Crawley defender Mark Connolly broke the deadlock on the half hour with a towering header following a free-kick from Dutchman Enzio Boldewijn.

Newport came close to replying moments later but Demetriou headed a Ben Tozer cross wide at the far post.

But the visitors drew level six minutes before the break when Demetriou scored with a downward header from six yards following a corner from Sean Rigg.

Newport finished the half strongly and Robbie Willmott fired against the bar before Rigg blazed over with the goal at his mercy.

Crawley were punished for poor defending as Demetriou struck again to restore Newport's lead five minutes after the interval, heading in a corner from Willmott.

The hosts came to life midway through the second half when substitute Josh Payne saw a 25-yard free-kick come back off the post.

Crawley defender Josh Yorwerth headed a Jimmy Smith cross wide in stoppage time as the Reds disappointingly dived to a fourth defeat in five home league games.
