Arsene Wenger has recently confirmed that his club is pursuing a transfer for Yaya Sanogo who is currently employed by Auxerre, a Ligue 2 team. The 20 year old French player has regularly played for his country in their Under-16, 17 and 19 teams and has specifically excelled in the Under-16 team scoring 48 goals in 18 appearances.
The lanky 6ft 3 in. player could be a good addition to Arsenal’s lineup and under Arsene Wenger’s tutelage could blossom into the dangerous finisher the club has been missing. Robin van Persie’s career was interrupted by injuries and when he finally showed his true potential, Manchester United came calling. The club has had its fair share of contributors this season but they are sorely lacking the decisive and calming influence in front of the goal.
Sanogo could be groomed into becoming the lethal forward who can thrive ahead of the talented midfield of Arsenal. With a healthy Jack Wilshere and the magical Santi Cazorla behind him, the striker could be a potent weapon as he also possesses the height that Walcott lacks.
The only drawback of signing the young striker might be his injury prone nature. Sanogo has had problems with his fitness and he missed an entire season due to a leg injury. But Wenger’s knack for nurturing and developing young and exciting talent should again help Sanogo make a smooth move into the Premier League.
Yaya Sanogo might be a promising prospect for next season to help solve Arsenal’s trophy drought but whether he would be able to break into the first team and command regular play is as much dependent on impressing Wenger with his skills as on his ability to stay fit consistently. Let us hope he wouldn’t be another player who unconvincingly gets lost in transition to the biggest league in the world.
