Colchester facing injury crisis

Colchester boss John McGreal continues to manage a mounting injury list ahead of the visit of Mansfield.

The U's saw their play-off push stalled by Saturday's 4-0 home defeat to high-flying Portsmouth, where midfielder Sammie Szmodics returned to the starting XI following his lay-off with an ankle problem while on-loan Reading winger Tarique Fosu-Henry made an impact from the bench.

Defender Richard Brindley (calf), midfielder Doug Loft (Achilles), defender Tom Eastman (ankle) and club captain Luke Prosser (knee) all continue their rehabilitation, along with defenders Jermaine Grandison (hip) and Lloyd Doyley (calf), and midfielder Tommy O'Sullivan (knee).

Forward Denny Johnstone (knee), leading scorer Kurtis Guthrie (ankle), defender Frankie Kent (ankle) and midfielder Craig Slater (groin) are also out.

Goalkeeper Jake Kean, out with a knee injury, remains the only absentee for Mansfield but it is hoped he will be back in first-team contention this month.

Defenders George Taft and Kyle Howkins are fit again and will hope to be involved on Tuesday night after being left out of the squad at the weekend.

Stags boss Steve Evans may not make any changes to his team despite the home defeat to Plymouth, which he called the best performance since his appointment as manager.

The likes of Shaquile Coulthirst, Alfie Potter, James Baxendale, Yoann Arquin, Jamie McGuire and Danny Rose are options should Evans decide to change anything.
