The in-form and in-demand right-back Nathaniel Clyne has been a revelation this season as a starter for a Southampton team everyone expected to nosedive after the loss of so many key players in the summer.

The squad, have proven the critics wrong and have been riding high all season with significant wins that have put them in the mix for a Champions League place as things stand. The Saints will be keen to ward off the interest in their star performers and avoid a repeat of the summer which led to the departure of several players.

News of the stall in the new contract currently on offer to the 23-year-old England man appears to have given the green light to Manchester United say reports with United keen to bolster their defence. The report states the player has refused to sign a new contract at St Mary’s which is due to expire in 2016.

The report the Mirror claims that Clyne is keen on a move to United and follow his former teammate Luke Shaw. Clyne joined Southampton from Crystal Palace in 2012 and has gone on to make 83 league appearances for the Saints and scored 3 goals. The right-back currently has 2 England caps to his name but is widely tipped to be a future star for the Three Lions.
