Chelsea Vs Paris Saint-Germain: To be continued...

15 December 2014 05:14

Round of 16 pairings have been completed with some very interesting duels upcoming, but guess what, some wishes have just been granted! PSG will in two consecutive seasons come up against Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea. This fixture gradually is turning to become a favourite for both with Chelsea enjoying the end results thereof.

A little retro to last season’s champions league quarter final saw the Blues having a memorable clash with PSG ; lost the first leg 3-1 and came back to win the second leg 2-0 with goals from Andre Schurrle and Demba Ba. Jose Mourinho before the draw told ChelseaFC.com that he wants to face Paris Saint Germain. “We don’t have much choice, there are only five possibilities, but to make it easy for everybody, I would say Paris Saint-Germain. It’s easy for us to travel, easy for the fans to travel and they won’t have to spend a lot of money to go there. They are a very good team and I would prefer a really good team, which will motivate the boys. So, if I could choose, even though I can’t, I would say Paris”. Thinking through Jose’s statement I realize a hidden premise for which mourinho prefers this duel. He has lost only one of his fifteen Champions League fixtures against French sides (W11 D3).

Hold on! Before you start thinking its only Chelsea who prefers the duel, PSG does too. PSG almost always have a flashy tweet ready for every occasion. Right after they lost at Stamford Bridge, the club’s official twitter account, @PSG_inside posted up a tweet stating ‘See you next year’.

Well they got served. And same as always, they posted up a new reminiscing tweet.

The Champions league will always bring up match reunions for FC Barcelona and Manchester City FC, Real Madrid CF and FC Schalke 04, but one you do not want to miss will be the fixture between Chelsea FC and Paris Saint-Germain on 17 February 2015 at the Parc des Princes with the reverse fixture on 11th March 2015 at the Stamford Bridge. Will Stamford Bridge once again be the fixture decider? Or will David Luiz be back at his former club to seal the loop holes PSG’s defense? Well whichever it goes, my fingers are crossed even as the road to Berlin continues.
