Chelsea to go head-to-head with Everton for midfield superstar

The transfer window looks set to host another Premier League battle with Everton and Chelsea chasing the signature of a 24-year-old Portugal international.

Antonio Conte is already engaged in something of a overhaul of the Chelsea midfield with the capture of N'Golo Kante from Leicester and it is reported that he also wants William Carvalho to play alongside him. The Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder who featured for Portugal in their Euro 2016 triumph is rated at £30million which will be of little concern to cash rich Premier League sides.

Carvalho has been with Sporting since signing as a youth in 2005, joining the senior setup in 2011 and having a couple of loan spells that finished in 2013. He has made 111 appearances for Sporting and scored 8 goals in four seasons at the club.

According to reports in the Mirror, Chelsea and Everton are competing to bring in the enforcer in a bid to protect defences too often exposed by more attack minded midfielder. The same two clubs are also competing for Kalidou Koulibaly, the 25-year-old Napoli centre-back.

Antonio Conte will already be feeling the pressure to make more improvements to the side after losing out on the signing of Radja Nainggolan. According to the Telegraph, Conte is looking to bring in four more players before the transfer window closes.
