Chelsea Steal A Win As Mourinho Outsmarts His Mentor

Anyone who was watching the Chelsea VS Manchester United game came out with two conclusions. One is that Mourinho played the game exactly the way he wanted. And two, Manchester United clearly should have won.

Upon Mata's first return to the Bridge since he left, Manchester United at times seemed brilliant and with aesthetic qualities, but proved themselves short of the high standards that will be required if they hope of becoming English football's best team again.

Jose Mourinho saw nothing short of perfection in his team's victory. All had gone according to plan. "I am the one who knows how fantastic it was," he said. "The game was exactly what we were working for the game to be." The outcome of the game was how Mourinho imagined it in his head. His side may have looked weaker at times but they scored a goal, and one goal was all they needed to come out on top.

Van Gaal's side clearly had more possession and control of the ball and were just simply unlucky last night. And now, Chelsea are poised - nothing final but looking more likely - to be crowned Champions of this year's Premier League.

Amid a recent injury crisis, two teenagers held their own and made their clubs proud with Luke Shaw giving an outstanding effort at left-back before what looked like another discomforting injury ended his participation, while centre-back Paddy McNair had the tough challenge of tagging Didier Drogba. McNair's ease in possession is proof of him having a big future, but Drogba was not going to take it easy on the youngster and accepted a yellow card for going too far with a hacking foul.

Mourinho ended the night with a note saying that his side will not celebrate until the final whistle of the last game, "Football is not about 'if' and 'almost,'" he said, reinforcing his worldview as he denied his team has the Premier League trophy all but in their trophy cabinet. "It's about mathematics, and until that moment we will not celebrate."
