Premier League Champions elect Chelsea are ready to stump up the huge sum of £75million to bring Gareth Bale back to the English top flight from Real Madrid this summer, according to today's reports.

Rumours of Gareth Bale's potential move back the Premier League have gathered pace in recent weeks with a move to join Manchester United's 'Gaalactico's' being the most popular narrative. Today though, Chelsea have entered the race to sign the worlds most expensive footballer after Madrid fans turned on Bale in recent weeks.

The wingers Real Madrid release clause is set at an eye watering £75million, which would make him the most expensive player in Premier League history.

Speaking after Wales' win over Israel on Saturday, Bale maintained he is happy in Spain, despite being made the scapegoat of Madrid's recent poor form:

‘I don't need to answer the critics. I know, and everyone around me knows, what I can do.

‘There are ups and downs in football, you have to take it with a pinch of salt and all you can do is respond with your performances on the pitch, like that.

‘I don't feel I need to prove anyone wrong or right, I just need to play my football.'

Chelsea haven't been put off by those comments though and are willing to offer Bale an incredible £300,000-a-week as they look to tempt the 25-year-old to the blue side of London.

Wages like that would certainly make Bale Chelsea's highest paid player, but with Financial Fair Play playing an ever increasing role in the football transfer market, the club may have to part with players to make such a costly deal happen.
