Chelsea ready to announce deal for United flop Radamel Falcao

Premier League champions Chelsea look set to announce the signing of former Manchester United and Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao.

Jose Mourinho's Chelsea have been in talks with Falcao's representatives for a number of days after the Colombian international was informed by loan club Manchester United that they would not be looking to sign the striker on a permanent deal.

The Blues are looking to bolster their attacking options this summer with club legend Didier Drogba leaving Stamford Bridge for a second time, whilst Costa and Remy had both been hit by injuries at various times throughout last season.

Reports from Spanish site Punto Pelota claim that a deal for Falcao is all but done and go as far as saying an announcement could be made within the next few days. Chelsea could sign the player for a reduced fee of around £25million, whereas Manchester United would have had to stump up £43million to turn Falcao's loan deal into a permanent arrangement.

Chelsea may have Falcao to thank for that near 50% discount, with the player pushing to stay in the Premier League. Liverpool were also thought to be interested in Falcao's services but the 29-year-old would prefer a move to London.
