Chelsea and Manchester City - The Modern Rivalry

Chelsea and Manchester City are set to dominate the title race this season, and remarkably the two clubs currently both have an equal record in the Premier League in 2014 consisting of; Played 35, Won 25, Drawn 6, Lost 4, Goal Difference 51. - Even when the two sides met earlier this season in 'El Cashico' the result was a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

The two clubs have a lot in common having both similarly emerged in the last 10 years to take their place among the games elite, enjoying the finest period in their club's history, both largely done so because of the backing of foreign benefactors. Chelsea's owner the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and Manchester City's owner the even more wealthy Sheikh Mansour have shaken up the Premier League and transformed the landscape of European football using their vast personal fortunes to turn the clubs into superpowers, breaking British transfer records along the way to assembling squads full of some of the best and most expensive stars in world soccer.

While Chelsea and Manchester City do not have a traditional strong rivalry, now that both clubs are regularly challenging for the biggest honours we could see one the great football rivalries unfold.
