Championship FTBpro PFA Fan Player of the Year: Danny Ings - Burnley

What a season it has been for Danny Ings and Burnley as the Clarets secured a return to the top flight of English football after a five year absence – and the former Bournemouth striker’s 21 goals were a major contributory factor.

Whilst being recognised as a valued team player in what has been a massive group effort by Sean Dyche’s men, personal accolades have also come Danny’s way in the wake of Burnley’s automatic promotion against all the odds.

Having already been named in the PFA all star team of the year, the England Under 21 international was also crowned Championship player of the season at the Football League awards. Now, the Turf Moor favourite can add the title of PFA Fans’ Player of the Year to his list of personal honours.

Being asked to fill the boots of former Burnley hero Charlie Austin might have seemed a tall order, but Danny has risen to the challenge in some style; with more than a little help from strike partner Sam Vokes.

Manager Sean Dyche has played a big role in his development, and Ings is always eager to pay tribute to his boss for helping him along the way. Equally, Dyche recognises the contribution of a player who provided the necessary inspiration on so many occasions during a wonderful campaign.

The Burnley boss says of the young England star: “Ingsy is exceptional with his work ethic. He just keeps going and going and the demands he’s got of himself and the rest of the group is first class.

“With some strikers, if the ball’s not landing for them they just switch off. He doesn’t. He just keeps going and has got his rewards. He’s a fantastic person as well as a player.”

It’s little surprises Ings has been linked with bigger Premier League clubs but he insists he’s happy Turf Moor and has no intention of leaving, despite all the speculation, and is just looking forward to put his skills to the test in what he describes as ‘the best league in the world’.

He adds: “I'm really looking forward to it. It's every lad's dream to play there and that first game is going to be unbelievable. It's going to be a great feeling and I'm going to enjoy every moment of it."
