Michael Carrick has been forced to withdraw from the England squad for Wednesday's friendly clash with the Czech Republic after hobbling out of Manchester United's draw with Newcastle. The midfielder limped out of the action mid-way through the first-half after suffering an ankle injury.Carrick had hoped to force his way into Fabio Capello's England side, but United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says the player has no chance of being fit in time for the Wembley fixture.

"It's an ankle injury and it's very badly swollen," Ferguson told Sky Sports.

"He'll be out for 2-3 weeks which is extremely disappointing."
