Carragher warns Liverpool against bringing back former talisman Torres

Jamie Carragher has warned Liverpool against bringing Fernando Torres back to Anfield in January. The Merseyside club has had their troubles at the center forward position since the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona and the injury to Daniel Sturridge. Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini have all not been effective in covering for these losses this season. But, according to Carragher, Torres is not the answer.

He explains, “If Liverpool bring a striker in you want a young, fresh, and energetic young fellow who is looking to make a name for himself.”

He continues, “Fernando Torres has had an unbelievable career with the trophies that he has won but I think we saw the best of him at Anfield and that was quite a few years ago now."

“With that move to Milan you're thinking a slower paced game would suit him a bit more now, because of the problems he’s had with injuries, but it looks straight away that AC Milan are keen to offload him."

Torres, who scored 65 league goals in 91 matches for Liverpool, over four seasons, has experienced a large dip in goal production as well as form since his departure. He only scored 20 in 72 for Chelsea after that shock fifty million pound transfer, following the 2010/2011 season. Torres has spent this season at on loan at AC Milan. But, despite the Serie A experiencing a lull in quality and physical demand in recent seasons, Torres has looked far from convincing, scoring just once in seven league appearances, with poor look looking very opposite as to the reason why.
