Heading into the game the U's hadn't recorded a win since their 4-0 thrashing of Newport County on 17th January, and with two draws in the last five games Richard Money's men were looking to change their recent form.

The starting line-up was largely unchanged from the previous outing against AFC Wimbledon with Jordan Slew taking the place of Robbie Simpson up front being the only change.

As the match kicked off it was the Shrimps that took the initiative with Jack Redshaw and Ryan Williams both making an attempt on goal with in the first five minutes of the game. Possession would be shared between the two teams as they battled on.

It wasn't until half time loomed that the score would change with Ryan Donaldson heading home the ball from the six yard box from an assist from Richard Tait.

The second half would see Morecambe try to battle back but a 58 minute goal from Slew sealed the result which would secure Cambridge's 16th place in the tables, eight points ahead of the drop-zone while Morecambe slipped to 13th.

"The result didn't flatter us really and I think we could have won by more to be honest." United boss Richard Money told football-league.co.uk.

"We looked really good with the ball and looked solid when we didn't have it and scored two good goals.

"There was a lot to be pleased with and it is nice to get back to winning ways again after a bit of a difficult period. We looked dangerous throughout the first half and the goal was fully deserved."

Cambridge take on 22nd place York in their next game and Money will be hoping that the latest result is the start of something good as the season draws to a close.
