Cambridge United fall to 3-0 defeat at home to York City

York City and their 226 travelling fans proved that their season is far from over despite starting the game against Cambridge United in 22nd place.

Ian Miller lead an unchanged Cambridge United squad to a 4,037 attendance at the R Costings Abbey Stadium on a crisp and clear night and for most of the first half it was looking to be a quiet game.

A booking for each side and a number of missed opportunities seemed to be setting the tone for the night, that was until York City's Wes Fletcher put away a right footed show from the centre of the box on the 42nd minute.

While the home team were down at the half time mark they couldn't have been expecting what was to come from the second half.

Just 4 minutes after the whistle had blown after the break it was York who took advantage once again with Michael Coulson firing a shot in to the top left corner to take the visitors 2 goals ahead.

It wouldn't take long for the Minstermen to put the game out of the reach of the home side as Jake Hyde put the final nail in the coffin in the 54th minute with a close range shot from a Malvind Benning assist.

Cambridge boss Richard Money would attempt to change things around with three substitutions in the remaining minutes but the damage was already done and United would finish the game 3 goals down, marking their eighth defeat at home this season.

Cambridge United remain in 16th place while York City move up to 20th place, just two points off the relegation zone.
