Bury claim first home win

Bury registered their first home win of the season after hanging on for a 2-1 victory against Plymouth.

The Shakers were excellent in the first half and led 2-0 after 15 minutes through goals by Tom Soares and Danny Rose.

Plymouth pulled one back through a 66th-minute penalty by Reuben Reid but the hosts held on for all three points.

Bury were in front inside five minutes as Soares got a glancing header to Nicky Adams' inswinging free-kick.

Rose then headed wide following a Soares cross but made no mistake following a fine cross-field move.

Danny Mayor cut inside before switching play to Soares, who found Ryan Lowe down the right, and his low cross allowed Rose to tap in at the far post for his third goal in three games.

Plymouth went close through Lewis Alessandra and Reid but Adams fired just wide as Bury got back on top.

The visitors made a triple substitution on 53 minutes and shortly after Pablo Mills fouled Reid, with the Argyle striker smashing in the spot-kick.

Bury finished with 10 men as substitute Danny Nardiello went off injured after they had made all three substitutions and Kelvin Mellor went closest to equalising, his late shot hitting team-mate Reid.
