Oldham still unbeaten after 1-1 derby draw with Bury

Oldham remain unbeaten in League One after claiming a 1-1 draw in a hard-fought derby at Bury.

Lee Croft gave the visitors a 24th-minute lead but Tom Pope's 65th-minute equaliser earned a point for Bury, who are still without a league win this term.

A first half of few chances saw Chris Hussey's free-kick deflected wide for Bury.

But with David Dunn a constant threat behind lone striker Jonathan Forte, Oldham deserved a half-time lead.

Left-back Joseph Mills pushed forward to cross for winger Croft, who volleyed inside the far post for his first goal in 71 Oldham appearances, spread over three spells with Latics.

Bury came out brighter after the break, with Danny Rose and Danny Mayor having shots blocked while Tom Soares fired just wide.

Oldham replied with Mike Jones and centre-half James Wilson off target, and moments after Wilson's miss Bury were level.

Mayor found Rose in the box and he squared for Pope to tap in off the post.

Soares then sent a 25-yard drive just wide while Oldham substitute Simonas Stankevicius was denied a late winner by keeper Rob Lainton.
