Baldock fires City to victory

Sam Baldock took his goal tally for the season to 25 with a brace as Bristol City increased Notts County's relegation worries with a 2-1 Sky Bet League One victory at Ashton Gate.

The skipper put his side in front on 13 minutes with a close-range shot from Martin Paterson's low cross.

It was against the run of play and County deservedly equalised on 29 minutes when no defender picked up Haydn Hollis at a left-wing corner and he directed a downward header past Simon Moore.

The visitors went on to dominate much of the game only to lose it when Baldock pounced on a poor defensive header from Hollis on 86 minutes to win a 50-50 challenge with goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski and shoot into an unguarded net.

Paterson shot over from a Baldock pass early on, but County played the better football for long periods. Jimmy Spencer had a first-half shot blocked and City defender Derrick Williams did well to deflect an Alan Sheehan free-kick over the bar.

Moore fumbled a Spencer shot on 58 minutes, but recovered just in time to deny Gary Liddle from the rebound.
