Oldham stretch unbeaten run under caretaker boss Wellens with draw at Bradford

Caretaker manager Richie Wellens extended his unbeaten run to five matches a Oldham gained a point in a hard-fought and at times bad-tempered League One match against third-placed Bradford at Valley Parade.

Staffordshire referee Chris Sarginson booked three players after some fiery exchanges involving players from both sides, and added six minutes of stoppage time.

Bradford went in front in the third minute with a superb 25-yard right-footed shot from winger Paul Taylor following a free-kick. Nicky Law played the ball into Taylor's path and the summer signing from Peterborough gave goalkeeper Johny Placide no chance.

However, Oldham, who had won their previous four matches under Wellens, troubled Bradford with some swift counter-attacks and, after Eoin Doyle, on loan from Preston, forced home goalkeeper Colin Doyle to make two saves in the space of two minutes, he deservedly equalised for the visitors in the 23rd minute.

A through pass from right-back Cameron Dummigan split the Bradford defence and Doyle fired past the advancing keeper.

Play swung from end to end in an evenly fought second half, but there were few clear-cut chances.
