Jay Spearing edging closer to Bolton return

Jay Spearing is closing in on a first-team return for Bolton, although Saturday's game with Northampton will come too soon for the midfielder.

Spearing has missed the last three games with a knee injury, but joined his team-mates in a light training session on Wednesday following the midweek victory at Gillingham.

It had been feared Spearing would be out for the rest of the season after limping off in the 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers last month, but manager Phil Parkinson believes he will be back playing "sooner rather than later."

Parkinson is likely to name the same 11 players that have started the club's last two games, both of which ended in victory.

Northampton head to the Macron Stadium seeking a fourth straight win.

Striker Alex Revell could be back in contention following a calf problem, while forward Sam Hoskins has been out with a knee injury.

On-loan Crystal Palace forward Keshi Anderson replaced Gregg Wylde in the only alteration to the starting XI for the midweek victory over Port Vale and manager Justin Edinburgh is likely to keep changes to a minimum once again.

Defender Gabriel Zakuani has not played since the start of March because of a hamstring injury and may well miss the rest of the season.
